Tracking & Trailing a Vermont Carnivore adult

Join naturalist Matt Kolan for a day of reading and interpreting the tracks and signs of a Vermont carnivore, exploring the intimate story of a day in its life. Carpool from the Welcome Center to the nearest accessible animal trail. Come prepared for the weather and somewhat strenuous hiking. Bring a brown-bag lunch.

Forester for a Day family

Maple Open House Weekend family

Come to our sugarbush on Saturday for some hands-on maple activities with Shelburne Farms educators— from tapping a tree to sugar on snow! On Sunday you can take a self-guided tour of the sugarbush and see the sugarhouse in action.

Do you write poetry? Wish you could? This retreat will give you the time, space and encouragement to read, write, reflect and wander in a beautiful setting on the shores of Lake Champlain. No experience necessary, just a love of poetry and the natural world. Julie Cadwallader-Staub has been featured on Garrison Keillor’s Writer’s Almanac; her first collection, FACE TO FACE, will be out in 2010. Dotty Holcomb Doherty is a Maryland writer whose work has been featured in The Healing Muse and Wordgathering.

Pasture to Palate: The Art of Cheesemaking

Take a two-day journey into artisanal cheesemaking at Shelburne Farms, a 1,400-acre working farm and environmental education center. Your first day will begin with a pasture walk and a visit to the dairy at milking time. Enjoy a reception featuring an array of Vermont's finest cheeses with a guided tasting led by Jeff Roberts, author of THE ATLAS OF AMERICAN ARTISAN CHEESE. On the second day, you'll make cheddar cheese with the Farm's cheesemakers; we'll age the cheese you make and ship you a two-pound block in time for the holidays.

for Family Programs, Campfires and Vacation
Days
Payment in full is due with registration. Cancellations
one week prior to the program will receive a credit toward future
programs. No credit will be issued for "no shows" or
cancellations within one week of the program. In cases of
extreme weather, programs may be postponed or cancelled (decision
made 2 hours before program).
