Storywalk is a joint project of Montpelier’s Kellogg Hubbard Llibrary and the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition, a nonprofit that promotes bicycling, walking, and running through education and advocacy. Earthtime Practice is a retreat focused on creating sacred space for reciprocal communication and relationship with nature and the unseen world. The retreat focuses on practices intended to connect us with the Earth’s rhythms, cycles, and patterns. Specific practices include: listening and awareness, guided meditation, and seasonal rituals and celebrations. The collective retreat experiences are intended to support each individual’s unique practice and spiritual path.

Take a journey into artisanal cheese-making. Begin at Shelburne Farms with a pasture walk, farm tour, and visit to the dairy at milking time. On day two, make cheddar cheese with the Farm’s cheesemakers (we’ll age it and ship it to you in time for the holidays!). Then travel to the Northeast Kingdom for a rare opportunity to see The Cellars at Jasper Hill, a revolutionary cave aging facility built into a rocky hillside.

In her Hartland, Vermont garden, Sylvia Davatz works to save common, rare, and endangered seeds of open-pollinated vegetable varieties. Sylvia will talk about her long passion for seed saving and share stories about successes and failures. Lunch featuring produce from the market garden will be followed by a tour of the market garden with josh carter. Four years ago, Sylvia launched solstice seeds, a small seed company dedicated to offering locally adapted, regionally appropriate, open-pollinated seed.

Wade along some of the farm’s two miles of shoreline with naturalist Walter Poleman and Shelburne Farms’ Marshall Webb. Learn the geological history of the Champlain Valley and find out why white lines run through all the beach rocks! The program runs rain or shine, but if it’s very wavy, expect less wading and more walking. This program is physically challenging and requires sturdy water shoes. Expect to get soaked!

Earthtime Practice is a retreat focused on creating sacred space for reciprocal communication and relationship with nature and the unseen world. The retreat focuses on practices intended to connect us with the Earth’s rhythms, cycles, and patterns. Specific practices include: listening and awareness, guided meditation, and seasonal rituals and celebrations. The collective retreat experiences are intended to support each individual’s unique practice and spiritual path.
The 3rd of 4 seasonal retreats that build on each other, but a commitment to all 4 is not required.
