Formal Gardens Restoration Project

Shelburne Farms is working to raise funds for a four-phase, $3.35 million project to restore key elements of the Formal Gardens at Shelburne House.

PHASE 1: lakeshore stabilization, completed 2007, $200,000
PHASE 2: balustrade & lily pool, in progress as of December 2010, $1,180,000
PHASE 3: upper garden walls & stairs, $410,000
PHASE 4: pergola area, $660,000
Other Improvements, $400,000
Endowment, $500,000
TOTAL PROJECT: $3,350,000
Raised to date (as of 9/1/11): $2,255,000
BALANCE TO RAISE: $1,095,000

PHASE 2 began in 2010 and will:

Reconstruct wall overlooking the lily pool
Repair lily pool
Restore stairs and landings leading to lower terrace
Restore lake overlook balustrade in its original location
Repair brick wall at south end of lower terrace
Reconstruct failed walls at north end of garden
