Overlook

Lila Webb’s expansive bedroom, Overlook, was filled during her lifetime with family mementos and photographs. Both this room and the adjoining South Room, originally Lila’s dressing and sitting room, have outstanding views of some of her favorite places—the lake, meadows and gardens. King bed

The White Room

The White Room was originally two separate rooms—Dr. Webb’s dressing room and a guest room used by Dr. Webb’s valet during the 1910s and 1920s. This room offers a spectacular view of Lake Champlain, the Adirondack Mountains and the formal perennial gardens. King bed

Webb Room

First used as a nursery, this room became Dr. Webb's bedroom after his children reached adolescence. The spiral staircase was added to connect his quarters with a dressing room and valet's bedroom above. This is now a separate guest room (White). The Renaissance Revival-style bedroom suite originally belonged to Lila's father William Henry Vanderbilt. Double bed

Rose Room

The Rose Room was the bedroom of William Seward and Lila’s only daughter and eldest child, Frederica. The wallpaper, modeled after the original, is made to look like watered silk fabric. Much of the furniture, the enormous closet and the bathroom fixtures are original to the room. Double bed

The Green Room

The Green Room features a wonderful decorative pattern from the 1920s, influenced by oriental designs. During the restoration of the House, the wallpaper was copied from the original fabric on the screen. The south windows of the Green Room face the Coach Barn. King bed

The Brown Room

This bedroom belonged to Vanderbilt Webb, the youngest son of William Seward and Lila Webb. It has a splendid view of the formal perennial gardens and a suite of marquetry furniture that features sycamore and holly inlaid in mahogany. Two twin beds

The Pink Room

The quiet and comfortable Pink Room has an eclectic mix of furniture. The wallpaper is modeled after the original paper and was donated during the restoration of the House by the Old Deerfield Company of New Jersey. Queen bed

The South Room

The South Room was originally Lila Webb’s dressing and sitting room adjoining her bedroom, Overlook. Like many other rooms in the house, the tiles of the fireplace inspired the colors used in the upholstery and draperies. The view from the South Room includes the Coach Barn, built in 1901-1902. The Empire Room

The Empire style, characterized by imperial colors and motifs, was made popular by the French emperor Napoleon and was inspired by designs created by ancient Roman, Greek and Egyptian rulers. All of the furnishings are original to the room. Double bed

Louis XVI Room

The style of this room, popular during the nineteenth century, celebrated the French ruler and is characterized by elaborate applied decoration, pastel colors and floral patterns. The suite of painted furniture was purchased for the room in 1899 and is complemented by a wallpaper pattern and color scheme very similar to the original. Double bed

The Lilac Room

The Lilac Room offers wonderful views of the lake and gardens. From this vantage point you can see many of the mountains in the Adirondack range, and enjoy some truly marvelous sunsets across the lake and mountains. Queen bed

The West Room

This guest room, first a bedroom for the Webb children’s nurse, became a sitting room for William Seward and Lila’s only daughter, Frederica. The room features a lovely view of the formal perennial gardens, the lake and mountains. Queen bed Spring: $260;  Summer/Fall: $315

The East Room

This bedroom, with its delightful easterly view to the meadows and Lone Tree Hill, belonged to William Seward and Lila’s third child, Seward, Jr. Queen bed

The Blue Room

The Blue Room was originally the sitting room of William Seward and Lila's eldest son James Watson. Two twin beds

The Yellow Room

The Yellow Room served as a large guest room at the turn-of-the-century. It has a small adjoining room that was originally part of another guest room and now is furnished with a twin bed. The room also has a sunken bathroom, which was carefully designed so chambermaids would not disturb the room guests. Three twin beds

The Colonial Room

This room, originally used by bachelor guests, overlooks the north end of the gardens and the wooded pathways of the Enchanted Forest.  It features Colonial Revival style architecture and furniture  that was very popular at the turn of the century.  This Colonial Revival is apparent in the wing chair and spiral-turned bedposts.Double bed

The Tower Room

The Tower Room was originally used by William Seward and Lila's eldest son, James Watson Webb, as his bedroom while the adjoining Blue Room served as his sitting room. The selection of the blue and white floral patterned wallpaper from Clarence House was based on documentation of the room including an early inventory that identifies a floral patterned wallpaper on the walls. The Oak Room

This charming room is furnished with simple oak furniture, much like the pieces used to furnish Ne-Ha-Sa-Ne, the Webbs' lodge in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. The Oak Room offers delightful views of the lake and formal perennial gardens. Double bed

The Dutch Room

The elaborate ceiling and tin-glazed earthenware tiles surrounding the fireplace create the European character of the Dutch Room. The Dutch Room was originally used as a bedroom for visiting bachelors and overlooks different areas of the garden. Two twin beds

The Red Room

This simple room offers twin beds and a shared bath. It has unforgettable views to the south and west of the lawns, gardens, lake and Adirondack Mountains. Like the Oak, Dutch, and Colonial Rooms on the second floor, the Red Room was probably used by bachelor guests. Two twin beds

The Gable Room

Like the Oak, Dutch, and Colonial Rooms on the second floor, the Gable Room was probably used by bachelor guests.  The room is close to the north stairway leading down to the Game Room, where men often gathered in the evenings to play billiards, smoke cigars and drink brandy. Two twin beds

The Gray Room

The paired Gray and Violet Rooms are simply delightful. Each has a whimsical wall painting (a small fox in the Gray Room) that were added during the restoration. The Webbs used both rooms to house guests. The view to the east features pastures and woods and the meadows surrounding Lone Tree Hill. Double bed

The Violet Room

With two twin beds and views to the East, this room adjoins the Gray Room and shares a bath. At the turn of the 19th century, violet and white striped wallpaper with bunches of violets served as a backdrop for the oak furniture in this room. Today, tinted walls set off the violets on the south wall that were handpainted during the 1985-87 restoration. Two twin bed

The Cherry Room

Like the Oak, Dutch, and Colonial Rooms on the second floor, the Cherry Room was probably used by bachelor guests.  The room is close to the north stairway leading down to the Game Room, where men often gathered in the evenings to play billiards, smoke cigars and drink brandy. Two twin beds

Cottages

The Treehouse

This charming bungalow is nestled among the trees overlooking Lake Champlain, a short walk from the Inn.  It has a bedroom/ living area, small kitchenette, porch, dining area, and tiny bath with a shower only.  It was built c. 1890 as a site for women’s activities, and was later used as a painting studio by Aileen Webb, wife of Vanderbilt Webb. Queen bed. Spring: $330; Summer/Fall: $390

The Pottery

Located just north of the Inn, the Pottery was built around 1945 as a pottery shed for Aileen Webb. The Pottery was modernized in the mid-1980s as a guest house. It contains a bedroom/living area, kitchenette, private bath, and patio. Queen bed. Spring:$265;  Summer/Fall: $320

The Vineyard Cottage

Located behind the Breeding Barn complex on the southern part of the property approximately 3 miles from the Inn, the historic Vineyard Cottage has a wonderful view of the lake and the Adirondack Mountains. It features a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, and living room on the first floor; and a master bedroom with a king size bed, one bedroom with two twin beds and one smaller bedroom with 1 twin bed.  The bath is on the second floor. See Photo Gallery.

Private Guest House: The Glass House

Located on a bluff overlooking Lake Champlain, the Glass House was once the summer residence of Aileen Osborn Webb. Aileen was the wife of Vanderbilt Webb, the youngest son of Lila and Seward. Built in the 1960's, this casual house features a master bedroom with a queen-size bed and private bath, two additional bedrooms with twin beds and shared bath, a fully equipped kitchen, wonderful patio, and a deck overlooking the Lake. The house is located behind the Inn and formal gardens. See Photo Gallery.
