  • February 20, 2009: Shelburne Farms received a Vermont Public Spaces Merit Award for our Tree Allée Planting study and work. The Farm's historic elms along north gate road were lost to Dutch Elm disease 30 years ago. In May 2008, after removing the Norway Maples that took their place, 23 disease-resistant Princeton elms were planted in the original historic locations. Heritage Landscapes of Charlotte, who spearheaded the project, also earned a merit award for their work. The Award was presented by Gov. Jim Douglas.

    The award is given by the American Society of Landscape Architects (Vermont Chapter), the Vermont Planners Association, the American Institute of Architects (Vermont Chapter), American Society of Civil Engineering (Vermont Chapter), and the Vermont Urban and Community Forestry Council.
