Cheesemaking and Shipping Assistant

Job Description:  Come join the cheesemaking team at Shelburne Farms.  Currently seeking motivated, dependable, quality-focused individual to help craft and package our award-winning cheddar cheese.  Primary duties include:

  • Assisting cheesemakers in every step of cheese production, including milk hauling, sanitation and cleaning, and simple chemistry.
  • Cheese processing: cut, wax, wrap, label and accurately document cheese.
  • Accurately pick and pack orders for shipping
  • Perform other work necessary to support the Farm in satisfying customer needs, such as support for education and marketing
Full time, mid-April through Christmas. Five days a week, including 1 weekend day.

General Requirements/Qualifications:  We are looking for a team player that is flexible, fun to work with and wants to learn about the world of cheesemaking.  Position requires significant physical strength and endurance.   Dependability, cleanliness and attention to detail are essential.  Ideal candidate will have farm, food processing or shipping experience.

Special Functions Server

TIME COMMITMENT: late-April to mid-November. Full time, hourly position. On-site housing provided and required for position

JOB OVERVIEW: This position reports directly to the Special Functions Manger and is responsible for providing all aspects of service for special functions at Shelburne Farms, and assisting with meal service at the Restaurant at the Inn at Shelburne Farms. Special functions take place in multiple locations on the Farms and include workshops, conferences and meetings, fundraisers, private parties and wedding receptions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with on-site logistics for all functions, including set-up and breakdown of bars, chairs, tables and other special functions related equipment.
  • rovide logistical assistance to outside florists, caters and vendors as needed.
  • Provide excellent services for all functions, including: site host, bartending, and food service.
  • Maintain Coach Barn and Inn supplies, including glassware, linens, tables and chairs in an orderly fashion.
  • Assist with all functions in the public and private dining room at the Inn, including breakfast and dinner service as either a support staff or waitstaff.
  • Must have valid drivers’ license.
  • Must be available for entire events season.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • This position requires an upbeat, high energy individual with a positive attitude and a willingness to be flexible.
  • Eligible candidates must be able to lift and carry heavy objects safely.
  • Previous restaurant and/or hospitality experience preferred.
  • Must have valid drivers’ license.
  • Must be able to commit to entire events season.

Seasonal Summer Camp Educator

We are seeking an experienced, versatile educator to join our on-site summer camp programs. As a working farm and education center set on 1400 acres, Shelburne Farms has a diverse scope of activities. Hands-on knowledge of similar agricultural operations and natural ecosystems will enable you to make the most of every opportunity to bring the Farm to life. Our primary audience is children ages 3-10, with a few camps for children up to age 14. We also have Work & Learn participants at the high school, college, and college-graduate level. As a core staff member, you will teach and coordinate one-week day programs for this audience in collaboration with year-round staff. Additional responsibilities include garden chores and animal care. Click here to read more about our camp programs.      

Work experience with children is a prerequisite. A degree in environmental and/or agricultural sciences, first aid/CPR training, lifeguard certification, and excellent communication and computer skills preferred.
